Considerations
Goal:
To raise funding for research into stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in hopes of
finding a cure.
Situation:
Audience:
My priority public(s) are people who have been affected by breast cancer,
people who are interested in furthering research on stage 4 metastatic breast
cancer, and people who believe in finding a cure to breast cancer.
So
what? Because 1 in 8 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and 1 in 3
turns metastatic. So, the majority of people have been affected by breast cancer
either themselves or through a loved one.
Objective:
My primary objectives for this piece are to bring awareness to METAvivor and
the research that they fund. I also want to encourage more donations. Stage 4
metastatic breast cancer receive little funding despite the fact that so many
families are affected by it.

important implications are: this is a school writing project. I am not

Imagine
having a life-threatening disease and being told there is nothing that can be
done. Imagine your life changing because of a diagnosis, being told to fight
and stay strong. Then learning there is no treatment. This is the reality for
thousands of Americans across the country living with stage 4 metastatic breast
cancer. While we all love supporting fighters and survivors, wearing pink and
dedicating a month to them, none of this helps their battle without research. Unfortunately, little
government funding is provided to aid in research of metastatic breast cancer.
But, there is a way to support women and families who have gone through this
devastating diagnosis.
We
are METAvivor, a volunteer-led, non-profit organization dedicated to finding
treatment and a cure for women who have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. 1 in
8 women are affected by breast cancer at some point in their life. Of those, 1
in 3 turn metastatic. Despite the thousands of women who develop this, there is
so little being done for them. Once cancer turns metastatic, traditional
treatments, such as chemo, radiation, and surgery, no longer benefits them.
